It's that time of year again.
It's been that time all month but yet I have not managed to find the motivation to do it.
I need to run my car to a smog check so that they can perform 10 minutes of "work" to give me a piece of paper telling me that it's cool for me to pay the government money to send me a sticker to place on my license plate. I'm cool with the smog check but I think the registration fees every bloody year are a bit much. I preferred the system in PA where you had to get your car inspected every year to make sure that many different components were working properly and not just the smog. In fact, I could drive out here with faulty breaks, bad headlights, a missing door and a multitude of other problems but as long as my car passes the smog check no one gives a flying fun. I guess in the end it's all just a money racket.
Looking at the mail that I received nearly a month ago I notice the phrase:
Expires: 06-28-12
Maybe I've put off going long enough. My goal will be to remember to do this after work today so that I can at least have the piece of paper in my glove box telling me all is good in case someone decides to pull me over.
I guess in the end it's all just a money racket.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you got that right!
Minor inconvenience. Hell, you don't even pay a state income tax here. I want to move to Las Vegas.
ReplyDeleteNo state income tax just means they find other ways to rape your wallet.
DeleteGotta agree a safety inspection would make a lot more sense, although it would probably be expensive. Be glad you don't live in Cali. Real pain in the ass. The restrictions are crazy and you can't order alot of performance parts if you are doing a resto project. I have to reprogram one car every 2 years to smog it. Pita.
ReplyDeleteWhile I'm all for clean air it's crazy here. They can't even change pipes on a bike unless you do it yourself. The only good thing is you don't have to smog anything older than 1972 I think so at least the old cars can still run like they should.
I will be in town for a qui
In pa it was like $30 for the inspection.
DeleteHere we pat that for the smog then a lot more for "government taxes"
Got cut off. I'll be in town for a bit in July. Not sure how much poker time I'll get but besides the TBC meet I'll probably play a bit at Aria and will be checking things out at the Rio.
ReplyDeleteI might be able to make that meet up but won't know till closer to time.
DeleteRacket, definitely... Lightning, since I've become old enough to work, I've lived in New Hampshire, Texas, and Nevada - all states that don't have a state income tax... ;)
ReplyDeleteJust got the car registered here in NM. You have to change the title to a NM one, which I thought was weird. But, one bonus is that we don't have to have an inspection or emissions testing - woohoo.

DeleteSmog check is for the cars, money is for the government, I guess that's just the story goes...
